For decades, Indonesia was mainly dependent on Palapa broadband services. Palapa is a series of satellites launched by Indonesia to support television connection and domestic broadband, and it was firstly launched in 1976 and lastly launched in 1996.
June 18, 2023 – a historic moment for Indonesia happened at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida at 6:21 pm local time. SATRIA-1 (an abbreviation of Satellite of Republic of Indonesia) was successfully launched into space using a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. SATRIA-1 was manufactured by Thales Alenia Space, a renowned satellite producer in France.
Boasting Very High Throughput Satellite (V/HTS), SATRIA-1 is expected to revolutionise internet services with an astonishing capacity of up to 150Gbps. The $550 million spacecraft is envisioned to boost connectivity inclusion within Indonesia, providing free internet connection to 150,000 public facilities including schools and health facilities.
The launch of SATRIA-1 is expected to boost the economic growth of Indonesia, improve the quality of public facility, and eventually improve the quality of life of the people. SATRIA-1 is regarded as the most powerful in South-East Asia region and number 5 globally.
SATRIA-1 is currently performing Electric Orbit Raising until it would reach its orbits; position at 146 degrees East longitude above Papua sky.
It does not stop there, the launch of SATRIA-1 also marks a legal milestone for satellite and communication industry in Indonesia. SATRIA-1 is carried out under a public private scheme and operated by PSN consortium, a private satellite company consortium consisting of PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara, PT Pintar Nusantara Sejahtera, PT Nusantara Satelit Sejahtera, dan PT Dian Semesta Sentosa.

Selama beberapa dekade, Indonesia sangat bergantung pada layanan broadband Palapa. Palapa adalah rangkaian satelit yang diluncurkan oleh Indonesia untuk mendukung koneksi televisi dan broadband domestik, pertama kali diluncurkan pada tahun 1976 dan terakhir diluncurkan pada tahun 1996.
18 Juni 2023 – momen bersejarah bagi Indonesia terjadi di Kennedy Space Center di Cape Canaveral, Florida pada pukul 18.21 waktu setempat. SATRIA-1 (singkatan dari Satelit Republik Indonesia) berhasil diluncurkan ke luar angkasa menggunakan roket SpaceX Falcon 9. SATRIA-1 diproduksi oleh Thales Alenia Space, produsen satelit ternama dari Prancis.
Menawarkan Very High Throughput Satellite (V/HTS), SATRIA-1 diharapkan untuk merevolusi layanan internet dengan kapasitas menakjubkan hingga 150Gbps. Satelit ruang angkasa senilai $550 juta ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan koneksi menyeluruh di Indonesia, menyediakan koneksi internet gratis ke 150.000 fasilitas umum termasuk sekolah dan fasilitas kesehatan.
Peluncuran SATRIA-1 diharapkan dapat mendorong pertumbuhan ekonomi Indonesia, meningkatkan kualitas fasilitas publik, dan pada akhirnya meningkatkan kualitas hidup masyarakat. SATRIA-1 dianggap satelit paling kuat di kawasan Asia Tenggara dan nomor 5 secara global.
SATRIA-1 saat ini sedang melakukan Electric Orbit Raising hingga mencapai orbitnya; posisi 146 derajat Bujur Timur di atas langit Papua.
Tidak berhenti sampai di situ, peluncuran SATRIA-1 juga menjadi tonggak legal bagi industri satelit dan komunikasi di Indonesia. SATRIA-1 dilaksanakan dengan skema publik swasta dan dioperasikan oleh konsorsium PSN, sebuah konsorsium perusahaan satelit swasta yang terdiri dari PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara, PT Pintar Nusantara Sejahtera, PT Nusantara Satelit Sejahtera, dan PT Dian Semesta Sentosa.
Selamat kepada Indonesia atas langkah strategis dalam meningkatkan digitalisasi menyeluruh di tanah air dan menjembatani kesenjangan digital.
